Oasis Belgium - September Update

Article by kevinpotter, on Oct 18, 2011

We have just returned from visiting Thai massage parlors, including one that we’ve had a particular amount of trouble getting into.  It sits next to a bar in a run down part of the city and usually, we are greeted by a large pimp who takes our newsletter and sends us away.  This time, however, we found the front door ajar and let ourselves in.  We knocked on the inner door and a small Thai woman greeted us and led us inside. We told her about the free Dutch lessons we were offering and she became very excited, asking us to come back and start next week.  She then began to tell us about her life and how she ended up in Belgium.  Without using the word “trafficking” she described it exactly.  She was brought here by a Belgian boyfriend who beat and abused her before leaving her with their daughter.  She was now stuck at the massage parlor and in need of a way to a better life.  Just then a client came through the door and she led him to one of the back rooms.  We felt helpless knowing what was going on just a few feet away, but all we could was pray for her safety.  After being gone for a few seconds, the door burst open and the client ran out of the building, got in his car and left!

We also managed, for the first time, to find a phone number only parlor.  The way these places operate make them extremely difficult to locate, and this one was no exception.  It was hidden in an apartment between a bank and a phone company. Over the intercom, a woman told us to drop our newsletter in the mail box and leave.  As we turned away, she added on, "Unless you want to explain something to us, then come up."  So in we went, up to the sixth floor where we found a Belgian pimp behind a large desk going through financial paperwork.  We had heard that the local mafia runs the accounts for all the parlors in the area. We began talking to the pimp and the woman about the project and they politely showed us out.  It was strange entering this hidden world, if only for a few minutes.

We’d also like to update you about our meeting with authorities over the FM massage parlor.   We have been very concerned about this parlor for some time, working online to raise awareness about its practices.  The local government representative was very open to taking action and will be talking to the mayor next week.  The mayor is also the head of police, so this development is very promising.  Thanks for your support and prayers, and we'll let you know what happens next week.

Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my cousin were just preparing to do some research on this. We got a book from our local library but I think I learned better from this post. I’m very glad to see such great info being shared freely out there…

Hi, i read your blog occasionally and i own a similar one and i was just curious if you get a lot of spam feedback? If so how do you prevent it, any plugin or anything you can recommend? I get so much lately it's driving me mad so any support is very much appreciated.
